Las Cruces, El Paso nursing/medical assistant's training school programs strive to
fill Boomer gap.

As the American population, comprised heavily of Baby Boomers, nears retirement; the
health care field will face a dearth of workers. Qualified nurse\'s assistants,
medical assistants, and vocational nurses with certification must step in to fill
this gap -- both to replace Boomers who have retired and to take care of the Boomers
in hospitals and convalescent homes. The Computer Career Center offers five allied
health certificate degree programs: the medical assistant associate degree; the
medical assistant certificate training; the nurse\'s assistant certificating; the
vocational nurse certification; and the nurse assistant home health aide educational
track.

Computer Career Center offers several medical training options through its medical
assistant school programs at the El Paso and Las Cruces campuses. Medical assistant
training from CCC can be completed in one of two ways: The associate degree takes 72
calendar weeks to complete. The medical assistant certificating program can be
completed in as few as 10 months. Through these programs, students learn the basics
of offering patient care and assisting physicians, such as taking x-rays, reading
vital signs, preparing examination rooms, and interacting with patients.

At CCC\'s Las Cruces, New Mexico or El Paso, Texas nursing assistant training school,
students learn the fundamentals of basic patient care. For students interested in
the nursing field, CCC\'s program offers three allied health training programs:
nurse\'s assistant certificating, vocational nurse certification, nurse assistant
home health aide certificate program. The curriculum teaches basic skills
including feeding; basic first aid; proper body mechanics of patient care; taking
vital signs; and understanding the complexities of patient emotional and physical
health. All three certificate programs can be completed in a short time, and prepare
students to work in a variety of settings, such as major hospitals, nursing homes,
private residences, and convalescent care units. Students are also prepared to sit
for one of several nurse\'s assistant certificating exams.

CCC El Paso Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico: Business administration schools meet
historical culture

Business is sometimes used as a catch-all term to describe many career paths that
involve office and management work. CCC offers two business programs: a business
management associate degree

  • a business administration certification. The
business administration program teaches a wealth of computer software skills, and
includes a capstone course that engages students in computerized business
simulations. The associates degree in business management is a more comprehensive
program, combining business school theory and practice to prepare students for
entry-level management positions. For these types of positions, students must know
how to use computers for business applications -- but, they also must understand
different management and organizational strategies. CCC of El Paso, Texas and Las
Cruces, New Mexico gives students choices to approaching their business education --
and, upon certification completion, students can work their way up the career
ladder, or seek additional schooling at a four-year business school.

Other career choices with staying power: accounting, information management, and Web
    design.

CCC offers several other certificate programs, as well. Many of the programs offered
at Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX deal with different types of information
    management:

The medical information specialist training (MIST) teaches students to become
competent managers and employees of medical offices. Cited as one of the
fastest-growing job fields in the United States by the Bureau of Labor Statistics
(BLS), medical billers, coders, and administrators are needed more than ever as
government health care rules and regulations continue to change and evolve. Students
are instructed in necessary skills, such as the proper use of a professional medical
vocabulary; medical transcription; and insurance billing and coding. They are also
instructed in the use of major proprietary software commonly used in medical
    offices.

The legal assistant training certification is a school program that can be
completed in 10 months. Students learn to deal with computerized legal office
records management; use legal terminology; conduct legal transcriptions; and
understand business law. Students can find careers as legal assistants or legal
secretaries at law firms ranging from major corporate intellectual property firms to
small pro bono practices. They can also work as legal transcribers at courthouses.

The automated accounting degree program at CCC El Paso and Las Cruces
teaches students to use professional accounting software packages. This software
allows students to describe and work with large amounts of financial data. These
software packages also allow students to organize and manage client data. Students
are able to seek work as accountants in a variety of business settings, or can act
as software testers for new accounting proprietary software packages.

The network administration school at El Paso and Las Cruces enables students
to leran the ins and outs of computer and network repair on networked and
non-networked computers. They also learn how to network computers for business and
industry. This program gives students the necessary skills to seek the CompTIA A+,
CompTIA Network+, Microsoft MCSE, and CCNA certifications. Network administrators
are needed in a variety of business settings, and might work for specialized
    computer repair or networking companies.

The graphic design school program at El Paso and Las Cruces offers elements
of Web design school and the fundamentals of graphic design best practices. Students
learn how to work with raster and vector graphics; make Web banners, create unique
graphics and logos; deal with stock photos and imported images; and design in 3D.
Programming, word processing, and desktop publishing courses round out the Web
design school curriculum. Graphic designers are needed in many industries, including
journalism, information sciences, engineering, and health care.

Studying in the Southwestern United States is a very different cultural experience.
El Paso, Texas is located near the Franklin Mountains. It is home to many historical
and art museums and is steeped in the rich culture of Mexican and American history.
Las Cruces, New Mexico is a city that features a marriage of traditional village
life and developing city amenities. Both cities that call CCC campuses home have
distinct cultural blends, ethnic food and shopping experiences, and plenty of
skilled Spanish speakers. The climate at CCC\'s campuses is generally warm and sunny,
so students can shop, dine, and play outdoors year-round.

CCC offers students comprehensive educational programs designed to meet the staffing
needs and skill sets of business, nursing, and other industries. The Las Cruces and
El Paso schools aim to assist dis-placed workers in finding new, useful job skills,
while training younger workers for entry-level careers. Students are offered
academic and vocational counseling through the school. Each academic program offers
job-search techniques and grooms students to enter the workforce professionally.

One additional attribute of CCC\'s academic mission is that it aims to be an active
presence in the El Paso and Las Cruces communities. CCC demonstrates concern for
special-needs students, such as those with learning disabilities; few or no useful
work skills; academic drop-outs; and homeless, runaway, foster, and pregnant youths.
The skills and training offered through the business school, nursing school, and
other program certifications or associates degrees help these students enter the
work force prepared to perform well.
